Oh So Cozy Blanket Drive: ALL MONTH LONG
November 30 - February 22
We are collecting NEW, HANDMADE quilts and knit, crochet and tie blankets.
Help bring warmth to our neighbors in area shelters. Per shelter request, non-smoking homes only, please! Call us at 860-646-7349 to arrange a time to bring your blanket. We can meet you at the door. Please do not leave blankets outside!
Thank you to everyone who brought in beautiful blankets in December. Twenty-three blankets were delivered to Cornerstone Shelter in Vernon/Rockville! All blankets in January will go to the Holy Family Home Shelter in Willimantic.
Fleece Tie Blankets
If you can use scissors and a ruler and know how to tie a knot, this is the project for you!.
Helpful Highlights
- Use fleece fabric. Fleece does not fray when cut and it is warm and very cozy.
- You need 2 pieces of fabric for each blanket. Depending on the size blanket you want to make, you will need 1 1/2, 2 or 2 1/2 yards of fabric for each piece. .
- Colors and patterns. You can get creative choosing colors and patterns. There are plenty of options; solid colors for both fabrics, a pattern for one piece and solid for the second, or find complimentary patterns for both fabrics. Have some fun and let your creativity flow.
Feeling unsure? The staff where you purchase your fabric can lend a hand. Another option is to purchase a no sew fleece kit - the fabric is already chosen for you. - Interested in delving into the world of colors and color theory? We have the book for you, "Color" by Betty Edwards.
