Library Assistant II -- INTERNAL POSTING ONLY

Title:  Library Assistant II
GENERAL PURPOSE – Technology and Programming
Develops and implements programs, services and technology for patrons of all ages and staff. Performs work in a manner consistent with the town’s service excellence expectations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works with schools, other town departments, and local organizations to develop and implement programs and services for patrons of all ages.
  • Performs Circulation and Reference Desk duties as
  • Works with Media Coordinator to create and disseminate press releases, fliers, signs, displays, and mailings; updates the webpage as needed, library newsletter and the library’s social media presence.
  • Assists patrons with interlibrary loan and reader’s
  • Assists patrons with the use of library-owned technology, databases, and other online and downloadable resources and patrons’ personal devices.
  • Participates in material and supply selection, including placing orders for the acquisition of such items as needed.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
  • Participates in meetings, seminars, and training sessions; may serve as a member of various employee committees; serves on working groups as assigned by supervisor.
  • Coordinates record-keeping information with other departments to assure uniformity of information and procedures.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with previous work experience in a library setting; or a
  • Bachelor’s degree in library sciences; or
  • Any equivalent combination of education and
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Prior experience with an integrated library (Preferably Bibliomation).
  • Good organizational and time-management
  • Ability to work independently and without
  • Skill in operation of listed tools, equipment and technology.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of Microsoft Office applications, the Internet, social media, hand-held devices and desktop computers, and other technologies; ability to obtain a general working knowledge of new technologies as they become relevant to the Department and the position.
Special Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Personal computer, calculator, phone, copy machine, fax machine, and motor vehicle. Cricket machine and audio visual equipment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands and physical environment characteristics described her are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Must be able to sit at work station for an extended period of time. While performing the duties of this job, employee is frequently required to communicate with others in-person and over the telephone. Must have ability to bend and reach to retrieve and replace library materials from shelves. Must be able to enter information accurately into the computer and maintain manual records.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus in order to inspect documents, read instructions, and verify data. Often has to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, reach, climb, balance, and sit.
Work is performed in a library setting. The noise level in the work environment in usually quiet with background sounds coming from members of the public, coworkers, and office machines. Occasionally required to drive to other town offices or out-of-town for meetings or trainings under possible adverse weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
