New Public Walking Path in Bolton – Phase One

December 5, 2025

The first phase of a new walking path in Bolton is now open to the public. Extending from Stony Road to South Road, the path is located on land once considered for the relocation of Route 6. After determining that building the new road there was not feasible, the State transferred the land back to Bolton in 2016.

Thanks to Bolton’s Highway Department, a new parking area is located on the south side of Stony Road about a quarter mile from its intersection with Route 6.

The length of the trail is about three miles round trip. Beginning at the parking lot on Stony Road, a short steep uphill spur marked with orange blazes leads to the main trail marked with yellow blazes. From there turn south (right) and follow the yellow blazes through a beautiful Bolton landscape of large boulders, a small stream, a pine grove and large oaks. When you reach South Road, turn around and return on the same path. The terrain is somewhat hilly.

The map below shows the parking area on Stony Road, trail, and property boundaries.

Under Phase Two another path will be opened on the portion of the property between Stony Road and the area behind the post office plaza.

For more information or questions about the path, or if you have feedback about the path, please email selectman Gwen Marrion at gmarrion@boltonct.gov.
